La vera storia di Rafael Padilla, uno schiavo nato a Cuba nel 1868 e in seguito trasferitosi a Bilbao prima di divenire famoso al Cirque de Paris nel 1886 come clown, con il nome di Chocolat, in coppia con il bianco Footit. Il loro sodalizio andrà avanti fino al 1910, momento che segnerà una svolta drammatica nella vita di Chocolat, destinato a morire in miseria a Bordeaux nel 1917…
